Gabriela Garcia Medina

FILM: WHAT TO EXPECT

Gabriela Garcia Medina is a Cuban-American filmmaker. Her short films LITTLE CON LILI (2019) and THE 90 DAY PLAN (2020) distributed with HBOMax. Her short musical-comedy BERTIE THE BRILLIANT (2023) made in collaboration with WarnerMedia and Latino Public Broadcasting, distributed with PBS. Gabriela’s short WHAT TO EXPECT (2024) was made in collaboration with Latino Public Broadcasting and will distribute with PBS (2024). And she is shooting her latest short film #BLESSED in partnership with Rideback Rise (2024). Gabriela’s feature LITTLE CON LILI was Top 5 on the LatinX List (2022/2023) and is in development with Mandalay Pictures. Gabriela’s feature screenplay SKRRRT! won The Athena List Disney Development Grant (2024). Her romantic-musical-comedy MEDIO SUMMER is in development with MACRO. Her feature film FOR YOUR OWN GOOD was top 5 finalist at TriBeCa’s Untold Stories 2024 and she is one of the 5 filmmakers selected for the Cate Blanchett/Dirty Films & Netflix Proof of Concept Incubator (2024/2025). Gabriela is a Rideback Rise fellow (2023-2024), an Academy of Motion Picture, Arts & Sciences Film Accelerator fellow (2022), a Film Independent Directing fellow (2020), and Hedgebrook Screenwriting fellow (2016). She received her BFA from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film, and Television, with a double minor in Chicano/a Studies and African-American Studies. She holds two MFA degrees from CalArts. Gabi’s work has style, tone, heart and grit.
