Iris Almaraz is an East LA Chicana whose childhood ricocheted from homelessness to graduating from one of the most prestigious arts high schools in the country. She drew on her experience as a phone sex operator, in her 20’s, as inspiration for “Red Onion,” which was produced last year in the Women of Color Filmmakers Advanced Directing Program.
