PANEL: Soundtracks: The Power of Music in Film
Areli Quirarte is a renowned music executive and supervisor known for her innovative integration of music and storytelling in the film industry. As the former Senior Vice President of Music at Paramount Pictures, she played a pivotal role in shaping the music for major films including Bob Marley: One Love, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, The Lost City, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Babylon, Transformers One, and the upcoming Smurfs film featuring Rihanna.
Areli is celebrated for championing Latin voices in the industry. At Paramount, she spearheaded the partnership with NEON16 and enlisted Tainy to executive produce The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run soundtrack. The lead single, “Agua,” by J Balvin and Tainy, achieved over a billion streams and was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Original Song.
In her recent role, Areli was crucial in the music strategy for Bob Marley: One Love, collaborating with Academy Award Director Reinaldo Green and reggae legends Ziggy and Stephen Marley. She was key to the film’s marketing campaign, partnering with Island Def Jam to create an album featuring Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, and Daniel Caesar, and forging a notable collaboration with Latin superstar Farruko.
Before Paramount, Areli worked at 20th Century Fox Films, where she contributed to the music campaigns for The Shape of Water, working alongside Guillermo del Toro and Alexandre Desplat on the Academy Award-winning score, and worked with Diane Warren and Chrissy Metz on Breakthrough, which earned an Academy Award Nomination for Best Original Song. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and raised in Los Angeles, Areli’s passion for film and television was sparked by formative experiences on set. She holds a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Film Studies from Cal State University, Los Angeles, and began her career at Univision Network.
Areli has been recognized as a Powerful and Influential Latina for her unwavering support of underrepresented voices in film and TV. As a member of the Motion Picture Academy, she continues to advocate for diversity and cultural representation, bringing her deep understanding of language and culture to every project she undertakes.
